Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.

2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic, sockpuppet, or link to irrelevant and non-Squidoo sites (includes signatures).
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.

First, for those not familiar with the nofollow concept, here's an unofficial lens to get you up to speed.
We have made some changes to the way links within modules are tagged as nofollow. With this change we're putting more trust and responsibility in the hands of lensmasters. There are a number of modules where followed links are now possible for the first time ever. Conversely, we're taking a tougher stance on commenting modules set to auto-approve, because they leave lenses wide open to spammers if the lensmaster is not moderating regularly.
From now on, the only modules that will automatically tag links nofollow are:
1) Affiliate modules such as Amazon, eBay, CafePress, Zazzle (all affiliate links should be nofollow to avoid paid link confusion)
2) Commenting modules such as Duel, Guestbook, and Plexo Linklist (only if comments are set to auto approve)
3) Feed modules such as RSS, RSS Mashup, and Google Blog Search
In addition, lenses in Work In Progress status are nofollowed due to the higher chance the page is junk and/or spam.
It could take up to a month for this change to fully propagate, due to our aggressive module caching system.

Are there any links that are now do-follow that were nofollow in the past?

Sorry, I don't have a full list.

Would a link in the description of an RSS module (for instance) be nofollow?

Yes

Ooh, thanks for the announcement!
I have an out of date Module Index which shows what used to be nofollow. I'll have to update it. I'll wait a month for everything to propagate, then run through them again. (And add Page Break module... hopefully I haven't missed any others!)
EDIT: I think this sounds great as-is Gil, but glancing at the Requested Features forum, an idea occurred to me.
What if, for the visitor-input modules, there was a "Moderate links" setting? That is, the module would auto-approve text comments, but any submissions with links are held for moderation?
But I really like what you've done to have links in auto-approve modules be nofollow. That makes SO much sense.

Sounds good. Is there any reason why "Text with BIG picture" module would make all links nofollow though?

It's an interesting idea, but I think the number of options we offer now is already a bit overwhelming.

This module should no longer be nofollow. If you add a new one or edit/resave an existing one you should see that it is no longer nofollow.

Say Gil, my eyes are a little tired, so pardon me if this has been answered already.
Will the "My Lenses" module lose the "nofollow" ?

Didn't realize they were nofollow, but glad that they aren't. Will make it more exciting to add them to my lenses!

True.
And the more code on the workshop/lens, the more laggy.
This is good. Very very sensible which modules are NoFollow!
Thank you!

I am only just getting to grips with "nofollow" and "dofollow" but if experts like Katinka and GreekGeek are saying this is all good stuff then it's fine by me ![]()
Seriously though, thanks Gil this is good news ![]()

Question:
1) Does the description area of the affiliate modules (amazon, ebay, etc.) have the nofollow removed? Not the actual products, just the description area. Does this mean all 'description' areas in modules that auto-generate no-follow links will now be do-follow? Cause that would be good.

Well, many people tend to put a text link to the product in the description as well, so these should remain nofollow.
How about adding nofollow to all Amazon (and other affiliate) links automatically, regardless as to which module they appear in?

sorry, i think i did a bad job explaining.
I wasn't referring to the *product* description area (like for amazon featured modules). I was referring to the *module* description area *above* the items or feeds.

Gil, you're psychic! I just got asked a question about this today in the old Module Mentor lens. How did you know I'd be needing this info!

That's what I meant with my RSS feed question above too. I have to assume they are nofollow.

The nofollow rules extend into the module descriptions. So links within Amazon module descriptions, for example, will be nofollow.

Yes indeed I do think he's a mind reader at times ... that's the job of a good devo, anticipating the customer's needs/wants for next update, and Gil plus all the other Squid tech team members have that knack extraordinaire and then some.
