I just got some amazing news and had to share!
A few days ago my favorite band, 30 Seconds to Mars, made a surprise announcement that they were playing a free concert during the Sundance Film Festival and the 2010 Winter Games in Park City. I was ecstatic when I heard the news and had a wild idea to doing something daring. I suppose I was feeling brave that day and had just gotten my 1099 in the mail from Squidoo which made me think that what I do here really is work, even though it never seems like it. Anyway, I found the courage to call myself a "writer" and applied for press pass to the event using my lensmaster profile as credentials. Never expecting to hear back from anyone, my husband and I laughed about it over dinner that night and my kids rolled their eyes at my attempt to get a really good view of the concert.
A day or so passed and then an unexpected email was delivered to my inbox. They approved my request for Media Credentials and granted me access to the media zone at the base of the Superpipe!! How cool is that?! I'm a Squid Reporter. ![]()
Assuming this massive snowstorm doesn't prevent me from actually getting up the canyon tomorrow, I should be able to get some great photos of the band, snowboarder, Shaun White and lots of other amazing athletes too. The concert will follow the awards ceremony and the 2010 Winter Games Team Announcement.
I could use some good wishes for the icy canyon roads tomorrow, so wish me luck on the journey and of course, watch for a new lens about my adventure to be posted soon!
Has being a Squidoo lensmaster ever opened doors for you in an unexpected way? Please feel free to share your stories here!

Now THAT is exciting news!
I told my husband the other morning as I left the den, "well, I'm off to work" and headed for the computer. He got it. Yes, it is a nice "job" to have!

OMG! That is exciting. Good luck with everything.

Congrats! I hope you have fun at the concert and can't wait for your lens on this experience. This just proves to everyone that you should never be afraid to take a risk, take that extra step. You never know what can happen and what you can achieve if you don't try in the first place. Great going! ![]()

Wow! That's brilliant...
Now let's see, where can I go on a Squid Journalist pass???

OMG - Congratulations!! There is no better spot! I got to be there for New Zealand Winter Games as my daughter was a fore-runner. Be prepared for the most amazing day! I assume you have done this before, but just in case, I have a tip: Go out and get a pair of glove liners (mine are blue wool, and cost under $10). Hold your camera and figure out which fingers you need to have free. Cut through the cheap gloves, from the front and not all the way. This way you can flip the tips on and off as needed.

Congratulations on your press pass! That is fantastic!
I had a cool experience just a few weeks ago. A guy in England who's an actor had been looking at my gospel music lenses and contacted me to ask if I could recommend a pianist to accompany him for a show he's going to be doing in Los Angeles in February. I put him in touch with a musician friend of mine and they have made plans to work together. Both the actor and my musician buddy are very grateful that I hooked them up.
I'm going to go to the first performance of the show and I'll definitely make a lens about it!

Sorry to post and run, but I had tons of errands to run that couldn't wait.
Thank you all so much for letting me share my good news with you and for all the kind comments. The last few weeks have actually been like a roller coaster for me because I had a health scare that thankfully after testing turned out to be benign. After going through it all, I realized how fortunate I am, but it also made me think about taking action to make positive things happen instead of waiting for them to knock on my door. It's kind of amazing, because good things have been happening all week and it's really refreshing!
Now, if only all this positive energy could clear the roads. It's snowing... a lot. The roads are terrible and I don't have 4 wheel drive, so I'm off to bed, hoping the storm takes a break. I have a place to stay overnight if I can just make it there! ![]()

Umm, no. I've never done this before, LOL! I hate the cold more than you know, so your tip is most appreciated! I have a pair of gloves that will work perfectly for your clever suggestion. Thank you so much!
