Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.

2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic, sockpuppet, or link to irrelevant and non-Squidoo sites (includes signatures).
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.

Ouchee mama,
Just went and had a little read about Security Essentials 2010, a very nasty piece of rogue Anti-spyware program software downloaded onto your computer through a trojan payload. Yes a very nasty item of software, tries to trick you into thinking you have spyware and virus on your computer which can only be removed by purchasing the software, DONT PURCHASE IT, IT IS A SCAM!!!, as well as stops all other programs from running, therefore your unable to operate and execute your usual antivirus/trojan/malware software.
Still have that lens, but it is still a WIP

I figured that SCAM out immediately when I could not get rid of the screen..only after half a dozen clicking out, did it go away...
I had another annoying blue "floating ad" while working in my lens, but didn't know how to do a screen shot/capture...I read a lens on screen shots, and now I know how to capture the screen ..
I still get the 'tip black box' obscuring my work in progress in the lensworkshop...I have to click around the screen for it to disappear:
here is what the back button dropdown box has in it...

I looked this up and can't get anything on it...it's annoying!
I have not seen anyone mention this here and now wonder if this is my computer...but then why only when I'm on squidoo?

I've had issues with the text module freezing and the image notification freezing, that seems to be gone now. Now I'm getting a St. Lucia talking ad that keeps coming up everytime I get on squidoo and I have to close it out. I have AVG and have not had any problems.

I posted my concern about several things here on this forum on 2/27/10
one being...
3. I'm happy the "save and share" option over images is gone.
well it's back, and I would like to know how this works...I do hope someone can explain this, cause I don't understand how it works for our benefit ..
Mucho Gracias,

I think my computer may have picked up something, although it seems alright... a glitch now and then, but nothing major. It flashed me a message last time I shut it down that it was closing its dummy Windows. I think it said "dummy Windows" and not "dummy windowless" or "dummy winidow" though after prowling around the internet, it seems that all three of those things have existed.
Well, I also got to wondering if the thing I clicked on yesterday about anew version of java being available was authentic. Some online tip suggested I clear the java cache, so I did. Something else suggested I uninstall the current version of Java and install the newest one. I got as far as uninstalling whatever update was there. When I tried installing a new one, Chrome told me files of this type could hurt my computer and was I sure I wanted to proceed.
I'm more than a little confused by all this. My security program tells me things are honkey-dorey, by the way, but I know things sometimes do slip past them. Thoughts?

Hi Karen,
It is one of those rare items where it is best to update Java from Internet Explorer, (Adobe Flash is another one). Make sure you have closed down, Chrome, Firefox, Opera or any other browser you use before updating in Internet Explorer.
Also suggest that you temporarily turn off any Virus scanners when you update and turn it back on when you are finished updating. Some Virus scanners think that you are possibly having your computer run a 'rogue program' and it will think it may be malicious, when in fact it is not.
Hope this helps

Yes, that helps, thanks. I will try it in IE.

Yes, it's one reason a lot of Mac owners have for sticking with Mac. But I'm hesitant to mention it for fear of sounding like an Apple commercial.
(There is, actually, a very limited about of Mac malware out there, but it's so rare that your risk of killing a Mac by spilling coffee on it is greater.)

lol Greekgeek, very true though.
@Karen, just re-read through some earlier posts on this thread, noticed you earlier asking about Anti-Virus software putting virus' into 'quarantine'. This is a good thing, its your Anti-Virus program putting the virus into a special 'vault' so it cannot be allowed to continue to run rampant on your computer. This is available in most programs of this type as a safeguard against false-positives. Sometimes even Ant-Virus programs make mistakes. It allows one to 'put back' a file, if it isn't an actual virus and continue to use that said file.
Discovered this one day when I was using an old Canon printer and updated the drivers for it. My Norton at the time thought it was a virus and locked it up, needless to say I couldn't work out why I was unable to print for a couple of days. The good aspect is false-positive hits are very rare, but do still happen from time to time.
Hope this helps ![]()
